Golf Course Overview
Colchester Golf Club was founded in 1907 with a private nine-hole course in the grounds of Achnecone House, and the parkland layout was developed by five-time Open Champion James Braid. The 18-hole course plays to a par of 70 at around 6,347 yards, with a course rating of 72.2 and a slope of 129. Mature, tree-lined fairways, more than 70 bunkers and subtly contoured greens — widely rated among the finest in the county — give the course its character, and the terrain is gentle enough to allow short walks between green and tee.
A non-profit members' club, Colchester welcomes visitors every day (handicap certificate required) and has hosted prestigious tournaments including the Essex Open (PGA), Essex Amateur Championship, East Anglian Amateur Championship and the Eastern Region PGA Championship. Facilities include a clubhouse with bar and restaurant, pro shop, practice area and putting green. The course sits on Braiswick about a mile north-west of Colchester North railway station, with the A12 providing easy access from London and Ipswich.
