Golf Course Overview
Clyne Golf Club was founded in January 1920 and officially opened in May 1921. Designed by the renowned Harry Colt, the 18-hole layout sits on Clyne Common around 400 feet above sea level at the gateway to the Gower Peninsula, west of Swansea. Measuring approximately 6,432 yards to a par of 72, the course retains Colt's original configuration with undulating fairways, countless pot bunkers often hidden in humps and hollows, and gorse and bracken framing the wide but exposed fairways. Some greens are protected by electric fencing due to the sheep and ponies that graze the common. Percy Alliss, father of broadcaster Peter Alliss, was an early professional here.
Clyne is ranked among the top 30 courses in Wales and is a frequent host to important events — recent hosts have included the 2025 Welsh Women's Team Championships, Welsh Under 16 and 14 Boys' and Girls' Championships, and the Glamorgan Men's County Championship. Facilities include a clubhouse, restaurant, pro shop, practice areas and buggy hire, plus the on-course four-star Somerfield Lodge B&B with six en-suite twin rooms. The club is ten minutes west of Swansea city centre — take the A4067 Mumbles Road to Blackpill, turn onto the B4436 Mayals Road and follow signs up Owls Lodge Lane.

Golf Empire Verdict
Clyne
"Playing at Clyne gives a real joy to be alive factor."
This hilltop, moorland golf course is beautifully raw, rugged and natural with some very fine lay-of-the-land holes. The greens themselves are encircled with electric fences to keep the many horses and sheep that roam the common away from the putting surfaces.
