 Golf Course Overview

Golf has been played on the slopes of Cleeve Hill since 1891, when the Cheltenham Golf Club laid out an 18-hole course on Cleeve Common with Old Tom Morris involved in the original design. The current Cleeve Hill Golf Club course sits at 330 metres (around 1,083 feet), the highest point in the Cotswolds, and plays over common land grazed by sheep across roughly 6,448 yards to a par of 71. The limestone bedrock provides excellent natural drainage, giving firm, fast-running fairways and a distinct inland-links feel, with blind drives, quarries, ancient sunken roads and commanding views over the Vale of Evesham towards the Malvern Hills and Welsh mountains. The dramatic 13th is widely regarded as the signature hole.

Facilities include a traditional clubhouse serving food and drink, a well-stocked pro shop with micro-brand apparel, putting area and buggy hire. The course is fully open to the public on a pay-and-play basis and visitors, societies and new members are welcomed throughout the year. Cleeve Hill is reached from junction 10 of the M5 via the A4019 and B4632 north of Cheltenham, just a few miles from the racecourse and Cheltenham Spa railway station.

Golf Empire Verdict

Cleeve Hill

★★★★ ★
4.0/5

"Cleeve Hill in Gloucestershire was selected as a stop-off course to break up the five hour journey down from West Yorkshire to Devon."

As my ears popped on the drive up to the club the wind must have been gusting to at least 60mph and a storm was fast approaching.
