Golf Course Overview
Clacton-on-Sea Golf Club was founded in 1892, when a small group of enthusiasts leased 40 acres of grazing land close to the town centre, and has occupied its current site for over a century. The 18-hole seaside layout bears the imprint of five-time Open Champion James Braid, and today plays to a par of 71 at around 6,448 yards, with a course rating of 71.4 and a slope of 131. Local "fleets" — ditches or streams — cross fairways and form boundaries to create distinctive water hazards, and the greens are widely regarded as among the best in Essex.
Facilities include a lounge bar and restaurant, Stud Bar, function room for weddings and parties, pro shop, swing studio with golf simulator, a 10-acre practice field and putting and chipping areas, along with buggies and trolleys for hire. Clacton is a member of the James Braid association and the 1892 Club, welcomes visitors and societies, and is a signatory of the Women in Golf Charter. The course sits on West Road close to Clacton seafront, easily reached via the A133.
