Entering an open competition at Chevin offers the chance to play a mature parkland and moorland course founded in 1894 and originally laid out by William Lowe (brother of Royal Lytham architect George Lowe), formally opened in October 1894 with an exhibition match between James Braid and Tom Williamson, with spectacular views across five counties from the Chevin Ridge and a famously tough par-4 8th regarded as one of the hardest holes in Derbyshire.

 Golf Course Overview

Chevin Golf Club was founded in 1894 and is a private members' club set on the Chevin ridge above Duffield, around six miles north of Derby on the edge of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. The 18-hole course measures just over 6,000 yards to a par of 70 and combines mature parkland with moorland terrain, with notably hilly topography rewarded by panoramic views said to span five counties from the ridge. Renowned for its outstanding greens, the course has hosted Derbyshire county championships and provides a demanding but fair challenge for golfers of every ability.

The clubhouse is known for a friendly atmosphere and an active mixed social calendar, and facilities include a pro shop, practice area, putting green and tuition. Visitors are welcomed Monday to Friday outside of public holidays, with a valid handicap normally required, and societies and corporate days are catered for. Chevin sits just off the A6 with easy access from Derby, Belper and the A38.
