 Golf Course Overview

Carmarthen Golf Club was founded in 1907 and originally played nearer the centre of the town. In 1928 the club moved to its present home at Rhydymarchog, three miles up the Gwili Valley on Blaenycoed Road, to a course newly laid out by five-time Open champion J.H. Taylor. The 18-hole hilltop parkland measures around 6,242 yards to a par of 71 and provides a stiffer challenge than its length suggests. The testing opening par 4 climbs uphill, the short dog-legged 17th with its two-tier green confounds the unwary, and the tricky undulating greens are the course's main defence, with few visitors breaking 70.

The two-storey clubhouse, extended upwards in recent years to add a new lounge and dining room, offers panoramic views over five fairways and the surrounding countryside. The club has a driving range, practice putting and chipping greens, a practice bunker, pro shop, buggy and trolley hire, and hosts weddings and corporate days. Carmarthen has hosted the Men's and Ladies' Welsh Team Championships and the South Wales Boys Tournament. Visitors are welcome subject to tee time availability and the course is a short drive north of Carmarthen town centre via the A484.
