Ray Underwood Reviewed Dec 2025

Excellent facilities and very welcoming members and staff. Entered their Seniors Open 2025 and had a wonderful time. Very well organised, excellent halfway house, food was excellent, drinks reasonably priced and prize giving every generous.

 Golf Course Overview

Bury St Edmunds Golf Club was established in 1924, originally to a design by Ted Ray — the first Great Britain Ryder Cup captain and a winner of both the Open and US Open — before being comprehensively redesigned by Frank Pennink in 1969 and further refined by Tim Lobb in 2012. The Championship Course is a mature parkland layout measuring around 6,669 yards off the white tees to a par of 72, making it one of the longest inland tests in Suffolk, with tree-lined fairways, subtle elevation changes and greens that hold hidden break. A separate nine-hole pay-and-play course, opened in October 1991, offers a shorter and more forgiving alternative.

The club has a large clubhouse with bar, restaurant and function rooms overlooking the course, together with a pro shop, driving range and practice facilities. Visitors and societies are welcomed on weekdays, and the venue is also used for corporate events and private functions. The course sits at Tut Hill in the village of Fornham All Saints on the northern edge of Bury St Edmunds, just off the A14.
