Entering an open competition at Bury offers the chance to play a parkland course at Unsworth Hall designed in 1920 by the trio of Colt, MacKenzie and Alison after the club's move from its original 1890 Redvales site — where six-time Open Champion Harry Vardon was the first professional — featuring MacKenzie's classic two-tier greens and an ongoing programme to reinstate the original MacKenzie design.

Golf Course Overview
Bury Golf Club is one of the oldest and most distinguished clubs in the North West, founded in 1890 and designed in its current form by the celebrated architectural trio of Alister MacKenzie, C.H. Alison, and Harry Shapland Colt between 1920 and 1922. The 18-hole semi-moorland course measures around 6,088 yards at a par of 70, featuring classic MacKenzie two-tier greens and a diverse, undulating layout where no two holes are alike. The club holds the proud distinction of being Harry Vardon's first club, and it was here that the great champion reportedly developed the famous "Vardon Grip".
The clubhouse is based in Unsworth Hall, an early 19th-century Georgian mansion — a non-designated heritage asset on Bury Council's list of buildings of special architectural interest. The surrounding semi-moorland setting creates a timeless atmosphere that complements one of Lancashire's finest inland courses.
