Golf Course Overview
Bungay & Waveney Valley Golf Club was founded in 1889 and bears the design stamp of five-time Open Champion James Braid. Set on Outney Common alongside the River Waveney on the Norfolk–Suffolk border, the heathland course plays to around 6,055 yards and a par of 69, with five par-fours measuring more than 400 yards and only a single par-five making the card deceptively stiff — the professional course record stands at 64. Small, undulating greens that often slope back-to-front, well-drained fairways and occasional ravines characterise the layout, and the course is a proud member of the Association of James Braid Courses.
The club is known for its hospitality and for playing superbly through the winter months, when temporary greens are rarely required. Facilities include a clubhouse with bar and catering and five sets of tees to suit all standards. Visitors, societies and guests from other clubs are warmly welcomed. The course is located just north of the historic town of Bungay, around 20 minutes from Norwich and easily reached from the A143.

Golf Empire Verdict
Bungay & Waveney Valley
"The modest 6,000-yard, par 69 course at Bungay & Waveney Valley Golf Club, established in 1889, is yet another Suffolk treat in a county that continually delivers fine inland golf."
Bungay doesn’t quite have the beauty of Purdis Heath, the scale of Aldeburgh nor the intimacy of Woodbridge yet the compact site on Bungay Common is ideal for golf; the turf is good and the natural contours of the terrain are superb. Add in the James Braid influence and these two ingredients will inevitably produce an exciting round of golf.
