Golf Course Overview
Builth Wells Golf Club, established in 1923, is a parkland course set in the picturesque Mid Wales countryside just outside the historic market town of Builth Wells. Originally a nine-hole layout, the club expanded to a full 18 holes in 1986/1987 after purchasing farmland from neighbouring Park Farm to build the additional nine. The course measures around 5,424 yards to a par of 66 for men and 5,317 yards to a par of 70 for ladies, with an unusual composition of twelve par 4s and six par 3s and no par 5s for the men. Natural features including woodland, ponds and the River Chewfri weave through the layout, while small, well-guarded greens demand precision on approach shots. Very much a course of two halves, the back nine is considered the trickier side, where accuracy matters far more than distance.
The historic clubhouse offers two lounge areas, a snug bar and a separate dining room seating around 40 to 50, with a daytime bar menu. A well-stocked professional shop is run by PGA professional Simon Edwards, who offers tuition, club repairs and is an authorised Powakaddy service agent. Buggies, electric trolleys and pull trolleys are all available to hire, and course planners can be purchased. Unlike many clubs, Builth Wells actively welcomes visiting golfers and societies at weekends as well as weekdays. The club has hosted Mid Wales County Golf Association events including county championships. The course is reached by turning off the A483 Builth Wells to Llandovery road opposite the entrance to Caerberis Manor Hotel, with the first right over the Irfon bridge leading up Golf Links Road.
