 Golf Course Overview

Buckpool Golf Club was established in 1933 and is credited to five-time Open Champion John Henry (J.H.) Taylor, having been laid out uniquely as a work scheme for the unemployed during the depression years. When Moray Council decided to close the course on economic grounds in the 1960s, a group of enthusiasts leased the site and in 1999 the land was purchased outright by the members. The course plays to a par of 70 over around 6,127 yards and is a classic raised links, elevated slightly above the sea with sweeping views across the Moray Firth towards the Caithness hills. Built on sand, the fairways are fast-running and lined by mature gorse, while swales and hollows surround the approaches to slick, undulating greens protected by deep bunkers. Former Open champion Paul Lawrie claimed his first professional victory here in 1986.

The clubhouse is unusually well-appointed and, as a combined "Golf, Sports & Social Club", includes two squash courts with viewing balconies, male and female showers and changing rooms, and a large function hall seating up to 120 with a private bar — also licensed for weddings. A full calendar of competitions runs throughout the season for ladies, gents, seniors and juniors. Buckpool sits just west of the fishing town of Buckie on Barhill Road, approximately equidistant from Aberdeen and Inverness and well placed on the Moray coast golfing circuit.
