Golf Course Overview
Buchanan Castle Golf Club was founded in the mid-1930s when the Duke of Montrose's estate was reimagined as a golfing destination, and the course opened in 1936 to a design by James Braid. Braid masterfully integrated the meandering River Endrick, gentle streams, a small lake and mature trees into the layout, originally featuring twelve of his trademark dog-legs. The 18-hole parkland course now plays to around 6,131 yards with a par of 70, framed in many places by tall paired trees at the dog-leg corners that demand accuracy from the tee. The course has hosted the Ryder Cup Board Match prior to Gleneagles 2014 and the Ryder Cup trophy itself was displayed in the clubhouse following Eric Brown's role in Britain's 1957 victory at Lindrick.
The club has a fully-stocked pro shop, a par-3 practice course, PGA teaching professionals offering lessons, and a clubhouse with bar and dining. The course sits within Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park just outside Drymen, around half an hour from Glasgow city centre, with views to Ben Lomond, the Highlands and the Luss Hills.
