Golf Course Overview
Brynhill (Barry) Golf Club opened in 1921 and is an 18-hole parkland/meadowland course set above Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan. The present layout was reworked by Dave Thomas, the architect behind the Belfry's Ryder Cup Brabazon, and measures approximately 6,368 yards to a par of 72 with four par fives. Tree-lined fairways, natural water hazards and undulating greens make it a satisfying all-round test, and in 2025 the club was voted Best Golf Club in the Vale of Glamorgan. The club also has a notable historical footnote: a foursomes match played at the 1921 opening is believed to be the first round of golf ever filmed and screened in Wales.
The current clubhouse was opened in 1984 by Bob Hope and has since been refurbished, offering a sports bar, restaurant, private hire rooms and a refurbished pro shop. The club recently installed one of the UK's largest indoor golf simulators, a 5.2-metre Foresight Falcon overhead system used for tuition by Director of Golf Leon Warne and his team. Brynhill sits just off the A4050 on Port Road and is easily reached from Cardiff, the M4 and Cardiff Airport.
