 Golf Course Overview

Brocket Hall, better known for golf as The Melbourne Club, is home to two 18-hole championship courses set within a famous stately estate near Welwyn. The Melbourne Course, designed by former Ryder Cup players Peter Alliss and Clive Clark, opened in June 1992 and plays to a par 72 over around 6,488 yards, crossing the River Lea four times and finishing with a memorable ferry ride across the lake to the 18th green in front of the hall. The newer Palmerston Course, designed by Donald Steel and Martin Ebert in partnership with Tom Mackenzie, opened in 2000 and stretches to around 7,080 yards at par 73, with ancient hornbeams, pines and 500-year-old oaks providing dramatic hazards.

The estate offers a first-class golf academy with par-3 practice course and swing studio, the Watershyppes Clubhouse with locker rooms, steam rooms and fine dining, plus accommodation at Melbourne Lodge and the Auberge du Lac lakeside restaurant. Visitor stay-and-play packages and society days are available, alongside weddings, conferences and corporate events. Brocket Hall lies 15 minutes north of junction 23 of the M25, with Welwyn Garden City mainline station around ten minutes away by road.

Brocket Hall

★★★★ ★
3.8/5

"Brocket Hall boasts two fine golf courses."

It is usually the much acclaimed Palmerston course that receives most of the plaudits but as I found out on my recent visit to the Brocket Hall complex there isn't much between the two and I'd happily return to play either.
