Golf Course Overview

Founded in 1887, Brighton & Hove Golf Club is one of the pioneer Sussex golf clubs and is widely regarded as playing over some of the oldest golfing ground in the county, with origins on Hangleton Down stretching back to 1875. The course is a nine-hole downland-links layout with 18 tees, laid out by James Braid around the turn of the twentieth century and remodelled after the Second World War. Measuring around 5,700 yards to a par of 68, the course sits on naturally draining chalk soil high on the South Downs, with the opening five holes running along the top of Round Hill and the return holes dropping through a valley, producing very different demands from each set of tees.

The club offers a traditional clubhouse with bar and dining, a pro shop, changing rooms, buggy and club hire and function space, and is recognised as a Sussex Local Wildlife Site. It hosts its own men's, ladies' and seniors' fixtures, a programme of opens and, as the base of the Sussex County Golf administration, a number of county events. The course lies on Devil's Dyke Road within the South Downs National Park, a short drive from central Brighton and easily reached from the A27 and A23.
