Golf Course Overview

Brampton Golf Club was founded in 1909 and the course at Talkin Tarn was designed by five-time Open Champion James Braid, who made inspired use of the rolling, undulating heathland terrain. Measuring roughly 6,418 yards to a par of 72, with a course rating of 71.8 and slope of 143, it is regarded as one of the finest inland tests in the North. Long praised as the "Jewel of Cumbria" and compared to a mini Gleneagles, the layout sweeps across moorland alongside the glacial Talkin Tarn, with elevated tees, panoramic views and a particularly strong closing stretch in the final three holes.

Facilities include a practice area, putting green, pro shop, clubhouse bar and restaurant, trolley hire and a full programme of society, corporate and open events. Visitors are welcome every day and the club regularly hosts county championships and representative matches. The course lies on Tarn Road about 1.7 miles from Brampton town centre on the B6413 towards Castle Carrock, within easy reach of Carlisle, Hadrian's Wall and the A69.

Golf Empire Verdict

Brampton

★★★★ ★

4.0/5

"Brampton is a James Braid roller-coaster of a golf course situated at Talkin Tarn just to the East of Carlisle."

The course, founded in 1909, is everything that somebody who loves adventurous golf could wish for. It is sporty in nature to say the least with lots of twists and turns along the way.
