 Golf Course Overview

Braemar Golf Club was founded in March 1902 during the latter stages of Scotland's great golfing boom and holds the distinction of being the highest 18-hole golf course in the United Kingdom, set at approximately 1,200 feet above sea level in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. The course began as a nine-hole layout before being extended to the full eighteen it plays today. Short but deceptively testing, it measures roughly 4,935 to 4,973 yards from the medal tees to a par of 65, with no par 5s and a notable total of eight par 3s. Much of the course is flat — running along the valley floor of the River Clunie — but water in the form of the river and several streams is a constant hazard, and the first two holes and final two holes in particular demand accurate driving and approach play.

The clubhouse opens from April through October and offers a licensed bar, light meals, teas and coffees, and secure changing facilities with showers for both ladies and gents. There is no dedicated pro shop but essentials and clothing are stocked at the clubhouse, while daily memberships, equipment hire and buggies are available. The course sits on Cluniebank Road just outside the picturesque village of Braemar, close to Balmoral Castle, and has long been popular with holidaymakers and golfing societies thanks to its extraordinary Highland setting.
