Golf Course Overview
Bowring Park Golf Club, often referred to simply as Bowring Golf Club, has the distinction of being the first municipal golf course in England, with the original nine-hole layout opening in 1913 within Bowring Park in Knowsley. The current eighteen-hole parkland course plays to a par of around 70 with white tees of about 6,150 yards, and includes a balanced mixture of par 3, par 4 and par 5 holes laid out over the gently undulating grounds of the former Roby Hall estate. The land was gifted to the people of Liverpool by the Bowring family and remains a Green Flag–accredited public park.
The course is operated by an independent leaseholder under arrangement with Knowsley Council, and offers pay-and-play green fees alongside a five- or seven-day membership. Facilities include a clubhouse with bar and food, a pro shop and trolley/buggy hire, plus a small practice area. Bowring Park is just minutes from junction 5 of the M62 and only a short walk from Roby station, with the 3A, 6 and 61 buses stopping along Roby Road, making it one of the most accessible courses for golfers across Liverpool and Knowsley.
