Golf Course Overview
Boldon Golf Club was founded in 1912 with a nine-hole layout known as the Old Vale Course, and moved to its present location at Dipe Lane in 1926 when six-time Open champion Harry Vardon was commissioned to design a full 18-hole course. Boldon is one of only five courses in the North East laid out by Vardon in his later years. The current course measures about 6,414 yards off the medal tees to a par of 72 and runs over gentle terrain that includes areas of both scientific and geological special interest, with panoramic views out over the North East coastline and the cities of Sunderland and Newcastle.
Facilities include a refurbished clubhouse, a pro shop run by resident professional Karl Strodl, and practice areas, and the club runs around 70 member competitions a year alongside open events, society days and family activities. Visitors and guests are welcomed, and the club is proud of its strong community feel. Boldon sits on the northern edge of Sunderland, just a mile from the A19 and less than three miles south of the Tyne Tunnel, making it very easy to reach from across Tyne and Wear and County Durham.
