Golf Course Overview
Known locally as "The Boat", Boat of Garten Golf & Tennis Club was founded in 1898 with an original six-hole layout. The course was expanded to nine holes in 1910 and transformed into a full 18-hole layout by James Braid in 1930, opening for play in 1932. The heathland course measures 5,837 yards with a par of 70, with birch-lined fairways running between the River Spey and the Strathspey Railway. Braid himself singled out the 12th, Craigellachie, for its superb setting against the birch woods and distant mountains.
Facilities include a modernised clubhouse with a bar and catering service, a pro shop offering lessons, changing rooms, and tennis courts. The club is a member of the James Braid Highland Golf Trail and welcomes visitors all year. Located around 10 minutes drive from Aviemore, off the A9 just north, the club sits at the heart of the Cairngorms National Park.

Golf Empire Verdict
Boat of Garten
"With around 3,000 golf clubs in the UK it's inevitable that courses will get bracketed by style and character."
Whether it be parkland, heathland or links it's usually quite easy to compare one similar type of course to another. Not at Boat of Garten! This is one of the most unique golf courses I have ever played. Importantly though, not only is it unique and boasts a character all of its own, it is a golf course of an extremely high quality.
