Golf Course Overview
Blairmore & Strone Golf Club opened in 1896 on the Cowal peninsula and is a James Braid design set above the Firth of Clyde with sweeping views of Loch Long and the Holy Loch. The nine-hole parkland course measures about 2,112 yards to a par of 31 for a single circuit, and although short it is far from easy: deep rough borders most fairways, the third hole has a steeply sloping approach, and the fifth plays to a pronounced right-to-left tilt. The course mixes genuinely hilly holes with some flatter sections and rewards accuracy over length.
Facilities are modest and visitor-friendly. The clubhouse veranda houses an honesty box where day tickets can be paid when the bar is unattended, and limited sets of clubs are available for hire with at least a day's notice. The course sits on the High Road between Strone and Blairmore, close to the A880 and within easy driving distance of Dunoon, the Benmore Botanic Garden and the Western Ferries service from Gourock. Play is light, making it a relaxed option for family golf.
