Golf Course Overview

Birley Wood Golf Course opened in 1974 on the south-eastern edge of Sheffield and is a popular 18-hole municipal parkland layout. The course measures around 5,925 to 5,973 yards with a par of 69 and a Standard Scratch Score in the high sixties, set across undulating ground with mature trees, generous fairways and several water features. The combination of testing par-4s, well-protected greens and changes in elevation creates a course that suits players of all standards — beginners and juniors enjoy the gently varied layout, while more experienced golfers appreciate the subtle short game challenges.

Operated by Sheffield International Venues (SIV) on behalf of Sheffield City Council, Birley Wood offers good value with a clubhouse bar, restaurant, putting green, chipping area, practice bunker, pro shop and golf tuition. Visitors are welcome every day and society days can be arranged with the resident professional. The course is well served by public transport, with bus and Supertram links nearby off Birley Lane in the south-east of the city.
