Golf Course Overview
Birchwood Golf Club was designed and built during the 1970s on 240 acres of rolling parkland in the Birchwood district of Warrington, opening in 1979. The 18-hole championship-standard layout plays to a par of 72 over approximately 6,623 yards from the back tees (with four sets of tees suiting all standards), with a course rating of 73.4 and slope of 131. Unlike many older Cheshire clubs, the course was built with substantial water features incorporated into the design, with lakes and streams coming into play on a good number of holes, alongside tree-lined fairways, grass banking and strategic bunkering.
The course has undulating greens that are widely regarded as among the best in the area. Facilities include a comfortable clubhouse with bar and catering, pro shop, changing rooms, practice area and buggy hire. The club welcomes visitors and societies and runs a full competition calendar, as well as fielding teams in the North Cheshire League and other local competitions. Birchwood is easily reached from junction 11 of the M62 and junction 21 of the M6, serving Warrington, Manchester and Liverpool within a short drive.
