Golf Course Overview
Birch Grove Golf Club was established in 1970 and extended through mature woodland in 1987 on a site at Layer-de-la-Haye, just south of Colchester. The compact nine-hole parkland course measures around 4,545 yards (par 66) and is renowned across Essex for the quality of its greens, watered from natural underground springs. Many of those same springs have been gently shaped into water features that frame holes and harbour an array of wildlife. The layout favours iron play and accuracy rather than length, with four par-3s, four short par-4s and a picturesque par-5 signature hole creating a thoughtful and varied test.
The club is known for its friendly atmosphere and offers a warm welcome to visitors and societies alike. A modern compact clubhouse provides full catering facilities, a small practice area with net, bunker and green, and a pro shop. Birch Grove is well placed for golfers from the wider Essex area, sitting on Layer Road off the B1026, around three miles south of Colchester town centre and close to Colchester Zoo and Bannatyne Health Club & Spa.
