Golf Course Overview
Bigbury Golf Club was founded in 1923 and sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the South Hams coast of Devon, with the original layout attributed to five-time Open champion J.H. Taylor. The 18-hole course plays to a par of 70 at 6,011 yards from the white tees, with panoramic 360-degree views taking in Burgh Island, the Avon estuary, the English Channel and the southern edge of Dartmoor. Fairways are generous and the greens roll quickly, but sea winds and well-placed trees and bunkers make accurate club selection essential. The layout is set up in loops that return to the clubhouse after the fourth and eleventh holes, and a round for a three-ball averages around three and three-quarter hours.
The spacious clubhouse has a large lounge with picture windows overlooking the sea, a patio for warmer days, a bar and a kitchen serving breakfasts, lunches and homemade cakes using local ingredients. There is a dedicated putting green, a chipping zone and a full-length practice ground, and the site also offers self-catering holiday accommodation on the estate. Visitors, societies and group bookings are welcomed, and the course hosts a Friday turn-up-and-play Stableford competition. Bigbury lies on the B3392 close to Bigbury-on-Sea and is reached via a short drive from the A38 near Plymouth.
