Golf Course Overview
Bentra Golf Course was laid out in 1935 to a design by James Braid and is reputed to be one of the longest nine-hole courses in Ireland. Set in the County Antrim coastal town of Whitehead, this well-matured parkland layout measures around 3,042 yards with a par of 36, or 6,084 yards (par 72) when played as 18 holes. Wide fairways and avenues of grand old trees frame the holes, while several long par-4s and par-5s ensure the course retains plenty of bite. The setting is glorious, with views over Larne Lough, Islandmagee, Ballycarry village and Muldersleigh Hill.
The clubhouse offers refurbished changing rooms, a small pro shop with club and trolley hire, and a sitting area, with the adjacent Bentra Grill restaurant providing dining nearby. Operated by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council as a pay-and-play venue, Bentra welcomes members seven days a week and visitors from Thursday to Sunday. The course sits just off the Slaughterford Road, a few miles from Carrickfergus, with easy access from the A2 Belfast to Larne road and a motorhome service point on site.
