Golf Course Overview

Bedford & County Golf Club traces its origins to 1912, when a nine-hole layout was opened on the Clapham Park estate with a 36-hole exhibition match. A full eighteen-hole course was set out the following year by Scottish amateur Charles MacFarlane under the name Mid Bedfordshire Golf Course, and refinements by J. H. Taylor and Frederick G. Hawtree shaped the layout that survives today. The par-70 course measures around 6,420 yards and is routed through mature woodland over undulating ground, with rolling fairways, slick contoured greens and well-protected approaches providing a steady test for players of every handicap.

The club has a modern, members-focused clubhouse with bar and dining areas, changing rooms, a pro shop and a popular halfway house serving snacks and drinks during the round. Open competitions, county matches and society days all feature regularly, and the club is an established venue on the Bedfordshire County Golf calendar. Tucked into the countryside just a mile and a half from Bedford town centre, Clapham is reached easily via the A6 and benefits from the peaceful rural setting that has earned the course a reputation as a hidden gem in the county.
