Golf Course Overview

Beccles Golf Club, founded in 1899, is a historic nine-hole inland-links course laid out on Beccles Common to the north of the Suffolk market town often described as the gateway to the Norfolk Broads. Played as nine holes with separate tee positions for an eighteen-hole round, the course measures around 5,527–5,565 yards to a par of 68 with a standard scratch of 66 and includes a mix of par 3s through to a par 5. There are no bunkers or water hazards on the course, but extensive gorse, undulating ground typical of common land and notably small, fast greens place a premium on accuracy and course management; the well-tended putting surfaces are widely regarded as among the best in the area.

The club is run almost entirely by volunteers, with a single part-time greenkeeper, and offers exceptionally affordable green fees for visitors during the week and on bank holidays, with juniors at half price; the course is usually restricted to members on Saturday mornings for competitions. There is a modest clubhouse with bar and changing facilities, and an honesty box if the clubhouse is unmanned. Located on Common Lane on the northern edge of Beccles, the course is reached easily from the A146 between Lowestoft and Norwich.
