Golf Course Overview

Bathgate Golf Club traces its origins to a meeting held on 12 May 1892, and the original nine-hole layout was prepared by Willie Park Junior of Musselburgh. The course was extended to 18 holes in 1907, and James Braid later added further refinements in 1935. The parkland course plays to a par of 71 and stretches to around 6,328 yards, with tree-lined fairways, well-placed bunkers and undulating greens. The signature par-3 fourth hole is particularly admired for its elevated tee shot, and the par-5 12th, known as "Auld Reekie," is the longest on the card at 505 yards. Bathgate Castle once stood on land now occupied by the 10th hole, giving the club an unusual historical pedigree that dates back to the time of Robert the Bruce.

The club has produced notable international players including European Tour professional Stephen Gallacher and is also the home club of two past Ryder Cup captains. The clubhouse offers a lounge with satellite television and a view over the 18th green, a dining area praised for its food, and billiards, together with a fully stocked pro shop run by professional Stuart Callan. Located on Edinburgh Road close to junction 4 of the M8, Bathgate is conveniently accessible from both Edinburgh and Glasgow, and visitors, societies and outings are warmly welcomed.
