Golf Course Overview

Barnsley Golf Club, which plays over the course known locally as The Limes, was established in 1925 on land just north of the town at Staincross. The 18-hole parkland course sits beside the A61 between Barnsley and Wakefield and measures 5,951 yards from the white tees for a par of 69. Although not long by modern standards, the course presents challenges on every hole and is known for some of the trickiest and most undulating greens in Yorkshire, where accuracy on approach and putting are critical to scoring well. The layout features a good mix of par 3s and par 4s that reward both cautious and more adventurous ball striking.

Facilities include a pro shop run by club professional Shaun Wyke offering tuition and equipment, practice areas, buggy and trolley hire, a clubhouse with bar and restaurant, and a function room available for hire to both members and non-members. The club organises major trophy events for men, ladies and juniors throughout the year in addition to regular monthly medals, and operates on a welcoming pay-and-play municipal basis alongside season-ticket membership. The course is approximately five miles north of Barnsley town centre, easily reached off the M1 via junction 38.
