Golf Course Overview
Banstead Downs Golf Club was founded in 1890 with a course originally designed by James Braid, later revised by Tom Mackenzie and Martin Ebert. This downland course plays to a par of 71 over approximately 6,581 yards on a chalk base, which ensures excellent drainage and makes it playable when many other courses are closed. The site has been designated an Area of Special Scientific Interest because of its natural flora and fauna. Fairways have natural undulation and good definition, with tight tree-lined corridors requiring accuracy from the tee.
The clubhouse features a large bar, dining room and function rooms that host weddings, private events and society days. Significant investment over recent years has modernised both course and clubhouse. Visitors are welcomed Monday to Friday, and a valid handicap certificate is required. The club is situated on Burdon Lane in Belmont, Cheam, conveniently located for south London and with good access from the M25.
