Golf Course Overview
Bangor Golf Club was originally founded in 1903 as a nine-hole layout and was extended to 18 holes from 1905, with the present course designed by James Braid. Although it has been refined over the years, many of Braid's original features remain. The Championship parkland course measures around 6,410 yards with a par of 71 and a Standard Scratch Score of 70, set in mature parkland with picturesque views of Ballyholme Bay and the Antrim hills. Notable holes include the long and demanding par-4 5th and the exhilarating 15th, where accuracy from both tee and approach is essential. The course has matured beautifully over more than a century and the fairways and greens compare favourably with much more famous neighbours.
Bangor has an enviable reputation among Irish parkland courses and has hosted the Ulster and Irish Professional Championships and a string of high-profile pro-ams. Resident professional Michael Bannon famously coached Rory McIlroy here for many years. Facilities include a fine clubhouse with bar and full restaurant service, a pro shop, locker rooms and a defibrillator on site. The course is in the centre of Bangor on Broadway, overlooking Belfast Lough, and is easy to reach from both Belfast airports.
