Golf Course Overview

Banchory Golf Club was founded in 1905 and originally laid out with advice from Archie Simpson. In the years leading up to the centenary, Scottish architect John Souter remodelled the course to meet the demands of modern golf. The resulting 18-hole parkland layout plays to a par of 69 over around 5,800 yards from the white tees, with fairways lined by mature native pines, birch and heather. Six par 3s — including two played consecutively at the 2nd and 3rd — are a distinctive feature, the most striking being the 88-yard "Doo'cot" 16th, a semi-blind shot to an elevated green beside an old pigeon loft and one of the shortest holes in Scotland. The River Dee provides a magnetic hazard along a number of holes. Banchory is notable as the club where 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie began his golfing career.

The characterful clubhouse includes the historic "Round Room" which houses the well-stocked pro shop. Bar, lounges, dining room and balcony offer fine views across the course, and the club hosts private functions, celebrations and meetings with a full-size snooker table available for non-golfers. Club and buggy hire should be booked in advance, and online bookings and swing studio lessons are available. The course lies just off the A93 a short drive west of Aberdeen, at the eastern gateway to Royal Deeside.
