 Golf Course Overview

Balmoral Golf Club was established in March 1914 when a group led by Dr G. Lyttle met in the Lecture Hall of Malone Presbyterian Church and acquired 75 acres on lease. The 18-hole parkland course measures approximately 6,276 yards with a par of 69 and is comparatively flat, partly because the site once incorporated an aerodrome used by the Royal Flying Corps and RAF until 1918. Mature tree planting and well-positioned bunkers shape what is a friendly but strategically demanding layout, and the club is famously associated with 1947 Open Champion Fred Daly, who served as professional from 1944.

The clubhouse, opened by Fred Daly MBE in August 1988, houses a restaurant, the Fred Daly Bar and a Lounge Bar with views over the course, plus changing rooms and a pro shop. The club is a regular venue for inter-club and Ulster Branch competitions and has produced four Ryder Cup players (Fred Daly, David Feherty, Eddie Polland and Norman Drew). Balmoral lies on the Lisburn Road in south Belfast, about three miles from the city centre and easily reached by road, rail and air.
