Golf Course Overview
Bala Golf Club, also known as Clwb Golff Y Bala or Bala Penlan, was relocated to its present hilltop site at Penlan in 1928 from its original ground beside the River Dee, where winter flooding had made play almost impossible. The course was laid out by Syd Collins, a well-known Llandudno professional, who took advantage of the natural terrain to provide hazards rather than relying on man-made features. Today the layout is a 10-hole course nearly 1,000 feet above sea level on a plateau overlooking Llyn Tegid, the largest natural lake in Wales, with sweeping views of the surrounding Snowdonia countryside.
The clubhouse, built in 1973, caters for groups of up to 100 people for special occasions, conferences and meetings. Visitors are welcomed and a range of green-fee options is available, with reduced rates when playing accompanied by a member. The club is in the heart of Snowdonia National Park, just outside the town of Bala in Gwynedd, and is reached via the A494.
