Golf Course Overview
Baberton Golf Club was founded in 1893 on the western edge of Edinburgh, with the original nine-hole layout designed by two-time Open Champion Willie Park Junior. James Braid subsequently reconstructed the course in 1926, and further refinements were made by Scott Macpherson in 2015. The parkland course plays to a par of 70 over gently undulating terrain, measuring around 6,016 yards, and offers panoramic views of the Pentland Hills to the south, the Ochils and Forth bridges to the north and Edinburgh Castle to the east. Baberton is notable as the first course in the world to be played by a professional using steel-shafted clubs, and its well-maintained sand-based greens and Braid-designed layout give it a reputation as one of the capital's most enjoyable parkland challenges.
A modern clubhouse opened in 2013 by Sky Sports commentator and Baberton member Ewen Murray provides a main lounge and balcony with panoramic course views, a dining and function area, a casual bar and a pro shop. Changing facilities with free towels, buggy and trolley hire are available, and visitors, societies and group bookings are welcomed at competitive green-fee rates. The course sits in the Juniper Green area of south-west Edinburgh, with easy access to the city centre, Edinburgh Airport and the M8/M9 motorway network.
