Golf Course Overview
Asta Golf Club is described as Scotland's most northerly 9-hole course, set on flat farmland in the Tingwall valley between the tranquil Tingwall and Asta lochs on the Shetland mainland. Founded in 1992 and laid out by James T Leask, the course features a clever rotating design: the Classic course (around 4,046 yards, par 62 over 18) is played for the first two weeks of each month, and the New course (around 4,640 yards, par 64) for the second half. The setting is rich in wildlife, with swans, oystercatchers, Arctic terns and Shetland ponies sharing the valley.
The clubhouse is unmanned but well equipped, with club hire, a vending machine for balls and tees, snacks, hot drinks and bathrooms. No booking is required for groups of fewer than 10. Asta lies about a mile north of Scalloway, between Asta and Tingwall lochs, around six miles west of Lerwick on the B9074. Green fees are paid in cash on arrival.
