Golf Course Overview
Ashbourne Golf Club traces its origins to 1886, making it the oldest golf club in Derbyshire. The present 18-hole parkland course on Wyaston Road was designed by David Hemstock and opened in 1999, set within around 150 acres on the edge of the Peak District National Park. It measures around 6,303 yards to a par of 71, with USGA-specification greens constructed for year-round play. The undulating layout includes dog legs, natural water hazards and elevated holes that provide a varied test, and among its most memorable features are four strong par-5s and a demanding run of finishing holes often praised as among the best in the county.
The clubhouse has a membership of around 500 and offers a welcoming bar and dining space, pro shop and practice facilities. Visitors and societies are encouraged to play, and the club has hosted significant events including the Derbyshire Open, the Derbyshire Professional Championship and the Midlands Qualifier for the England Golf Boys Championship. The course commands sweeping views towards Dovedale, Thorpe Cloud and the Weaver Hills, and is located just off the A52 around a mile from Ashbourne town centre.
