Golf Course Overview
Alton Golf Club was founded in 1908 and is one of the longer-established clubs in north-east Hampshire. The 9-hole parkland layout was crafted by James Braid, the five-time Open champion and prolific course architect responsible for, among others, both Gleneagles championship courses, and is played from nine greens with eighteen separate tees to give an 18-hole round of around 5,622 yards to a par of 68. The course winds through rolling Hampshire countryside with mature trees, undulations and quick, true greens that demand careful putting; some holes feature substantial elevation changes, so a buggy can be useful in summer.
The clubhouse offers a friendly welcome, a wood-burning stove and bar, and food including bacon rolls and refreshments before or after a round. Practice facilities include a putting green, chipping green and practice bunker, and PGA tuition is available with the resident professional. Alton's membership rates are widely regarded as among the best value in the region. The course is on Old Odiham Road, a short drive from the centre of Alton with easy access from the A31 between Farnham and Winchester.
