Golf Course Overview
Founded in 1905, Alston Moor Golf Club holds the distinction of being the highest golf course in England, perched at 1,476 feet above sea level in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The course is laid out over 132 acres of parkland, high meadow and pasture land, and plays as 18 holes through 10 greens and 18 tee positions. Measuring roughly 5,364 yards to a par of 68, the rugged terrain and exposed elevation produce a unique test, with elevated tees, undulating fairways and strong winds combining to challenge every club in the bag.
The clubhouse has a bar and catering facilities, and the function room is available for weddings, christenings, family gatherings and funeral receptions. Visitors are welcome every day by prior arrangement, and the club hosts local and regional competitions through the season. The course sits two miles south of Alston on the Middleton-in-Teesdale road, around 15 miles south of Hadrian's Wall, with the South Tynedale Railway nearby and panoramic views over the Pennines in every direction.
