Golf Course Overview
Alnmouth Village Golf Club was founded in 1869 and is widely recognised as the oldest nine-hole links course in England. The original layout was designed by Mungo Park, winner of the 1874 Open Championship, who also served as the club's first professional and greenkeeper. Played twice for a full round, the course extends to around 6,115 yards with a par of 71 and winds through natural dunes and coastal heathland, with alternate tees on the second circuit giving a different challenge each time through. The undulating fairways and rolling greens are shaped by the prevailing coastal winds, with views across Alnmouth Bay to Coquet Island.
The clubhouse on Marine Road offers food, refreshments and a warm welcome to visitors, with green fees available year round and winter membership options also offered. The club competes annually against its larger neighbour Alnmouth (Foxton Hall) in the traditional "Upper and Downer" match. Parking is limited given the course's seaside village location, so early arrival is advised; the course sits at the eastern edge of Alnmouth and is straightforward to reach via the A1068 from Alnwick.
