Golf Course Overview
Founded in 1884, Aldeburgh Golf Club is one of England's oldest maritime heathland venues, with its Championship Course shaped over the decades by an illustrious succession of architects including Willie Fernie, Willie Park Jnr, J.H. Taylor, Harry Colt and more recently Donald Steel and Ken Moodie. Laid out on fast-draining sandy soil, the course stretches to roughly 6,600 yards with a par of 68 and is notable for containing no par-fives on the men's card, placing a premium on precision iron play across gorse-lined fairways that give far-reaching views of the River Alde and glimpses of the North Sea. Also on site is the nine-hole River Course, which overlooks the Alde marshes and is well suited to beginners and higher-handicap players.
The Edwardian clubhouse, opened in 1911 and refurbished in 2019, houses a bar, terrace, dining facilities, locker rooms and a pro shop, with a caddie service available by prior booking. Visitors are welcome on the Championship Course by advance arrangement via the Pro Shop, while the River Course can be booked at any time. The club hosts a busy calendar of events including the Aldeburgh Spoon Ladies Open, the Seaton Robson Suffolk Order of Merit event, and an annual Junior Open Week. Aldeburgh lies on the Suffolk Heritage Coast off the A1094, around two hours from central London.

Golf Empire Verdict
Aldeburgh
"If you succumb to the notion of par then Aldeburgh is as tough as old boots."
Its par of 68 versus a SSS of 73 is testament to that. Playing over 6,600 yards from the back markers there are a dozen par fours that are over the 400 yard mark (seven greater than 425) and you won't find a par five in sight.
