Golf Course Overview
Addington Palace Golf Club was founded in 1930 on the historic estate that once served as residence to six Archbishops of Canterbury between 1805 and 1883. The course was laid out by Fred Hawtree and five-time Open Champion J.H. Taylor, cleverly exploiting the broad tree-lined avenues originally shaped by landscape architect Capability Brown. The parkland course extends to 6,404 yards with a par of 71, featuring a tighter front nine lined with birch, oak and fir, and a more open back nine. The third hole is named after four-time Open winner Bobby Locke, who frequently based himself at the club, while the ornamental fountain on the 12th is a distinctive feature.
The clubhouse occupies the former stable block of the Palladian mansion, offering a spike bar, lounge bar and restaurant with original vaulted features. Facilities include a short game practice area, warm-up nets and a putting green located in the old stable yard, along with a well-equipped pro shop. Visitors are welcomed subject to booking, and the club hosts corporate and society days. Located on Gravel Hill in Croydon, the club is easily accessed via the A212 and sits close to The Addington Golf Club.
