Golf Course Overview
Abridge Golf & Country Club opened in 1962 on a 240-acre site of rolling Essex parkland. The championship layout was designed by the legendary Henry Cotton, stretching to 6,704 yards off the white tees with a par of 72 and a slope rating of 131. The course straddles the rural parishes of Theydon Mount and Theydon Garnon, with gently undulating terrain, some 36 bunkers, a handful of water hazards and several elevated greens across the opening holes that test approach play from early in the round.
The clubhouse sits between the 1st and 10th tees and includes a restaurant, bar and terrace overlooking the 18th green. Practice amenities are extensive, with a driving range, 18-hole putting green, chipping area and practice bunkers. Abridge has hosted regional qualifying for The Open Championship along with the South East Regional Open Qualifier, and welcomes visitors, societies and corporate golf days. The club is reached via Epping Lane near Stapleford Tawney, a short drive from the M25 at junction 27 and the M11 at junction 7.
