We had a great day, the golf could have been better if it wasn’t for the killer 13th hole. Hopefully I’ll play it more skilfully next year. Very friendly club and a welcoming atmosphere.

Golf Course Overview

Aboyne Golf Club holds the distinction of being the oldest golf course on Royal Deeside, with origins stretching back to the 1880s when play took place over the village green. The present site was leased in 1905 and nine holes were laid out near Aboyne Loch, before Archie Simpson, the professional at Royal Aberdeen, extended the layout to a full eighteen in 1908. A comprehensive redesign by Martin Hawtree added five new holes and the course reopened in its current configuration in August 1991. Measuring just over 6,000 yards to a par of 68, the layout is effectively a course of two halves — a flat, tree-lined parkland outward nine that incorporates the Loch as a hazard, giving way to rugged heathland holes climbing through ridge-and-furrow terrain with panoramic views over the Aberdeenshire countryside.

The clubhouse provides a full range of facilities including bar, catering, changing rooms and a well-stocked pro shop offering club hire, buggy hire and tuition. Visitors are warmly welcomed throughout the year and the club operates a relaxed dress code. Aboyne has hosted several notable events, including the R&A's Ladies Golf Union Coronation Foursomes finals in 2018 and the Scottish Golf North-East Men's Open the same year, along with the 2016 Scottish Women's County Finals. The course sits just off the A93 in the village of Aboyne, roughly an hour's drive from Aberdeen International Airport and 30 miles west of the city.
