Golf Course Overview
Founded in 1893 and originally laid out by John Dean on Balliemore Farm before moving to its current site in 1896, Abernethy is a traditional 9-hole Highland course measuring around 5,052 yards with a par of 66. The layout offers a mixture of undulating heathland and moorland, bordered by the ancient pines of Abernethy Forest, with the 7th regarded as a particularly challenging hole. Players enjoy splendid views of the Strathspey valley from many parts of the course.
Abernethy welcomes visitors and families, and a handicap is not required to play. The course is open all year round, weather permitting, and tee times may be booked in advance via the website, the Scottish Golf app or by email, though casual walk-on play is usually possible. The club sits on the B970 just north of Nethy Bridge village centre, between Aviemore and Grantown-on-Spey in the Cairngorms National Park.
