Golf Course Overview
Founded in 1921, Aberdare Golf Club is a mature parkland layout set on the hillsides above the town, overlooking the Cynon Valley. The course measures around 5,875 yards to a par of 69 and is known for its avenues of oak trees, challenging blind shots, and a notably long par-3 opening stretch. Highlights include a 222-yard par 3 from an elevated tee and several testing par 4s that play across sloping fairways, while the hole named after a past club professional features a distinctive approach to a green sunk in a well beside the clubhouse.
The club has a strong historical connection with Welsh Ryder Cup golfer Dai Rees, who took his first lessons at Aberdare while his father served as the club professional. Facilities include a driving range, simulator, pro shop and a clubhouse hosting weddings, functions and Sunday carveries. Visitors are welcome and societies return regularly. The course sits around 25 minutes from Junction 32 of the M4 and ten minutes from the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road.
