The Leicestershire Golf Club was founded in 1890 and is an established parkland course that maximises the use of the land it is played over particular well for a course of this style.
The original track was extended to 18 holes in 1899 and in 1910 improvements by James Braid included a number of new bunkers. In 1936 the course was lengthened by Major Charles Mackenzie and subsequently altered by C K Cotton.
